NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi ordered a complete nationwide 21-day lockdown on Tuesday, in the fight against the deadly coronavirus pandemic. Athletes from around the country came out in support of the Prime Minister.

Along with that, these athletes at a personal level are also urging and appealing to the citizens to follow the orders laid down by the government agencies.

To make people aware of the seriousness of the disease and the gravity of the appeal made by the PM, table tennis player Manika Batra and athlete Hima Das posted videos on social media. In the videos the players described the situation in what are rather testing times and urged contribution from the citizens in the fight against COVID-19.

Dear friends, these are the testing times for all of us. Let’s follow the lockdown announced by our honourable Prime Minister @narendramodi ji. Let’s each one of us come together in the difficult times and contribute in the fight against Coronavirus by staying at home,” Hima wrote on Twitter alongside a video, urging the citizens to remain indoors

“Hello friends, there is a lockdown from our government for a reason. Please don’t be selfish and venture out, you are not only putting your lives at risk but others too in the society,” Manika wrote on Twitter alongside a video.

The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in India have gone past 600 and in a drastic measure to curb the spread of the virus, the government has announced a 21-day lockdown, which began from 12:00 am Wednesday.
