Former midfielder Paul Merson has named Liverpool as favourites to win the Premier League title this season but warned against Chelsea.
The Reds have made an impressive start under Arner, losing just one game this season to Nottingham Forest. They are currently two points clear of Chelsea but have played a game less before visiting Spurs on Sunday, with the Blues set to lose the lead the same day.
Merson still sees Liverpool as favourites to win the Premier League title this season but believes Chelsea will be a threat to the title race.
“This weekend has what it takes to be a game-changer in the Premier League title race,” Merson wrote in his column for Sportskida. “I say that because Liverpool played in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday and now travel to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, which is a tough task.”
“I know they rested a lot of key players for the cup game against Southampton but when they face Spurs they could drop to second if Chelsea beat Everton.”
“For their own good, Liverpool must not think about the game in hand. If you still think it is an advantage, I think it will be to your detriment.”
