CRPF personnel to contribute a day’s salary PM’s Relief Fund | India News

NEW DELHI: All CRPF personnel have decided to contribute a day’s salary – totalling nearly Rs 34 crore — to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund as the nation takes extraordinary measures to fight Covid-19 pandemic. This comes even as CRPF personnel remain on duty at all deployment locations during the 21-day lockdown.
The decision to set apart a day’s salary for the PM’s relief fund was taken on Wednesday and was unanimous. Sources said around 3 lakh personnel of largest Central para-military force would together contribute Rs 33.81 crore by cheque to be presented soon to home minister Amit Shah by CRPF DG A P Maheshwari.
A CRPF spokesperson on Thursday said that the force was “dutifully committed to standing firmly with the nation in this challenging time of Covid-19 spread”.
Incidentally, the CRPF had intended to present the contribution cheque quietly and sans any publicity.
However, after a section of the media put out a photo of the cheque, the spokesperson acknowledged the same with the statement: “It’s a unanimous decision and a sincere effort by our personnel. The effort was to make the immediate contribution with the noble intent to keep it unrevealed. The CRPF remains steadfast towards its motto of service and loyalty.”
